The Duke's Bride by Erica Ridley

Jack Skeffington is the widowed father of twins.  He is meeting with the captain of his ship to find a new smuggling route when his twins disrupt the meeting.  The captain tells Jack he needs a wife.  Jack won't love and lose again, but he knows he needs a governess for his wild children.

Desiree le Duc is the sister of Cressmouth's blacksmiths.  Beau, Lucien, and Desiree are working hard to pay off the lease on their property so they can return to France.  Lucien says they need another year to earn the money.  When their friend Jack offers Desiree an outrageous amount of money to be a temporary governess, she jumps at the chance.

When Jack helps her brothers pay off their debt faster, he realizes that he loves Desiree.  She is torn between helping her brothers or having her own HEA.

I loved this book!  It was so well written.  I enjoyed the introduction to the le Duc family.

The Merry Viscount by Sally MacKenzie

Caroline Anderson is returning home by stagecoach after a disastrous trip to London to sell Widow's Ale to another tavern.  The coach is packed and when two young bucks land the coach in a snow-covered ditch, Caro seeks shelter at a nearby estate.  She discovers that the owner is her brother's childhood friend Viscount Nick Oakland.

Nick hates his country estate due to the memories from his childhood and Christmas makes things worse.  He brings an assortment of London's lightskirts to entertain his friends.  During a blizzard, he hears pounding on his door only to discover Caro Anderson needing his assistance.  Caroline invades his home and his heart once he lets her in.

I liked this second chance at love romance.  The characters are older and have made mistakes.  I would have liked to know what happens next.  Do Nick and Caro go to Italy and visit his mother's family?  Do they go visit her parents and her father apologizes?

To Wed a Wild Scot by Anna Bradley

Lady Juliana Bernard needs to find a husband or lose the guardianship of her beloved niece.  She has been betrothed to her childhood friend, the Duke of Blackmore.  He is her only hope and she tracks him down to Scotland only to received devastating news: the duke is already engaged.

Juliana met the duke's brother Logan, Laird of Class Kinross at the local tavern as he was burning letters Juliana sent the duke.  The only Logan can make amends is to marry Juliana.  They are oil and water at first, but once they learn to work together, they find a romance to last a lifetime.

There were parts of this book that I absolutely loved, then there were parts that left me feeling like something was missing.  When Fitz and his fiance are in the book, it feels like parts of the book are missing or Fitz had his own book.  After I got past that, I loved the story behind Logan and Juliana's romance.

A Lady's Past by A.S. Fenichel

I really like the Everton Domestic Society series.  In each book, the heroine is a strong woman.  This book was no different.  Diana was on the run after escaping from a French prison and was found by Jacques Laurent.  Jacques was betrayed by fiancee, but because he is a gentleman, he can't leave Diana on the side of the road.  He brings her to the Everton Domestic Society to she can hide from the people she is running from.  When Jacques and Diana meet again, the sparks fly.  Can they both take a chance and trust each other?

I absolutely loved this book.  I liked that the heroine was an intelligent woman who wasn't afraid to be smart.  Jacques was a perfect hero that deserved a second chance.  I loved the suspense in the romance.

Bravery's Sin by Mari Carr and Lila DuBois

I have been reading this series since the first Trinity Master's Books.  This book did not disappoint.  I loved how it further developed the plot that has been threading through the Master's Admiralty series.  The characters are great.  I liked Nyx and Grigoris.  I liked how they fell in love.  Yet, this book is a page-turning thriller.  It was amazing.

Reckless Encore by Eden Summers

OMG!  This novella was amazing and left me wanting more.  I loved the band family vacation and the flashbacks used to build the story.  I can't wait for the Reckless kids to get their stories.

A Lady and Her Magic by Tammy Falkner

I loved the different take on the Fae.  The characters were amazing.  I didn't want to put this book down.  It was well written and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC provided by NetGalley and the publisher.  Thank you!

Their Special Agent by Mel Gough

I requested an ARC for this book because the premise hooked me.  I liked that one of the main characters was an alpha female.  I loved the murder-mystery and was hooked with the first chapter.  I even got past the lackadaisical naming of one of the members of the band and the main character's boss.  I loved the first three-fourths of the book.  It is the last one-fourth of the book that I had issues with.    It felt like the ending of the book was rushed after the author struggled to find a resolution to the murder-mystery.  The major plotline was left sitting in the interrogation room.

I was given an ARC by the author and publisher in exchange for an honest review.  Thank you.

The Marquis She's Been Waiting For by Ella Quinn

Alexander Endicott is on his Grand Tour in Italy when he learns his father has died.  When he returns to London, he is in for a bigger shock.  His mother married the estate steward shortly after he inherited his uncle's title and they went to Scotland, abandoning his younger sisters.  Luckily, Lady Dorcus Calthorp, daughter of the Marquis of Huntington, stepped in and helped run the household.

Lady Dorie had loved and lost during her first Season.  She is holding out for a gentleman that she can love.  Alex has decided that Dorie is perfect for him.  Dorie is doing her best to keep helping Alex while finding him the perfect wife.

While Dorie starts to tutor him in his duties, he longs to make a match with her.  Will Alex get his HEA?

I enjoyed the slower pace of this book.  Dorie was a strong character.  I really liked her.  Alex was just trying to figure out what end was up.  He needed a strong woman backing him.  I really liked the characters and how characters from the previous books made "guest appearances".

I absolutely loved this book!  I was engaged from the beginning to the end, and I didn't want it to end.  I loved the characters.  It was a well-written book.

This is the second book by Noel Cades that I have read.  I loved it just as much as the first one.  The characters were wonderful and the book was well written.

Guarding the Countess by Jess Michaels

Naomi Barnaby just lost her husband, the Earl of Walridge under mysterious circumstances.  It is her third husband to have died.  Naomi wants to know if the men in her life were murdered.  She hires investigators Captian Marcus Ridgeway and Everett Bryant, Marquis of Glenmarrow to discover what has happened.

Naomi is shot as she leaves their house.  Marcus and Everett decide Naomi needs their help and will do anything to protect her.  As they start to investigate her case, Marcus and Everett become attracted to her and soon begin an intense affair.

There is a shared history between Marcus and Everett.  They have been attempting to ignore it, but with Naomi, things become heated.  Can Marcus and Everett complete their relationship with Naomi?

This book was hot!  I loved every single minute of it.  The relationship between Everett, Marcus, and Naomi was amazing.  This is just another example of Jess Michael's wonderful writing.

How to Cross a Marquess by Jane Ashford

Roger Berwick, Marquess of Chatton, has known his neighbor Fenella Fairclough all of their lives.  Ten years ago, their parents attempted to arrange a marriage between them and they refused to get married.  Now, they are thrown together and the sparks start to fly.

I liked this Regency novel.  Roger was a spoiled and bratty heir until he had to mature.  Fenella was belittled by her father and escaped to her grandmother's estate.  Her grandmother helped her grow a backbone.  The story was engaging and the characters were fun.

How To Love A Duke in Ten Days by Kerrigan Byrne

I have loved Kerrigan Byrne's books since her first book.  This book is no different.  I will admit that the opening could be a huge trigger for some people, but it is a necessary part of the novel because it defines who Alex is.

This book is a powerful romance.  I loved Alex and Piers and how they found their true love.  I can't wait for the next books in this series!!

When Marcus discovers that his mysterious young woman and his ward are the same woman, he misleads her to think that she is going to marry an older man that she detested.

Can they get their HEA?

I absolutely loved this book.  I liked that Jemma was determined to have her London Season despite her guardian.  I liked how Marcus changed.

The Duke Is But a Dream by Anna Bennett

I had a hard time with this novel.  It is a Historical Romance, yet there is no set time period for the book.  It kind of left the book floundering.

Lily Hartley writes an anonymous tell-all advice column for young ladies of the ton.  She delivers her column dressed as a boy.  When she decides to explore her freedom, she ends up in a tavern.  During a brawl, she is hit in the head.  Eric Nash, Duke of Stonebridge is in the tavern and realizes the lad is really a young woman.  When she is injured, he takes her to his house to recover.

Lily is left with amnesia and has no idea of who she is.  The only thing she knows is her attraction to Nash grows stronger each day.  As Lily and Nash attempt to find her true identity, their attraction grows to the point they may just lose their hearts to each other.

What bothered me was Lily had no idea if she was married, betrothed, or single.  Yet, within two days of being in Nash's house, they are engaging in some serious action.  It was much too quick.

On the flip side, I did enjoy the book once I ignored my personal issues.  It was well written and Lily was a strong character.

When a Lady Kisses a Scot by Tara Kingston

This was an action-packed novel from the start.  When Rose Fleming faked her death, she left everything behind including the man she loved, MacAllister Campbell.  Ten years later, Rose is out of hiding because she believes she is safe.  When she runs into Mac, it shakes him to the core.  It is worse when he discovers why Rose was in hiding.  Will he risk it all to keep her safe?

This book was wonderful.  It moved from the first page and didn't stop.  The characters were strong.  Rose was a wonderful heroine.

One Night of Temptation by Darcy Burke

When Penelope's father is attempting to force her into marriage with a man old enough to be her grandfather, she hatches a plan to guarantee her freedom.  She is saved by Rector Hugh Tarleton in the worst of London's neighborhoods.  When her plan backfires, Hugh saves her from the unwanted marriage.

I loved the characters.  Hugh and Pen were wonderful.  This was a great end to the series.

One Night of Scandal by Darcy Burke

Ambitions member of parliament with no time for a wife meets a strong, independent woman who is masquerading as a man to pen a column so she can establish herself as a real journalist.  This is the perfect recipe for romance!

Jack Barrett is focusing on serving the people in parliament.  Viola Fairfax is the sister of the Duke of Eastleigh.  She has to disguise herself as a man so she can get information for the column she writes in a popular women's magazine.  Both are strong characters that bring out the best in each other.  This was a delightful romance.  I love how the characters blend in each of the books in this series.

The Lady and Her Secret Lover by Jenn LeBlanc

I requested this book from NetGalley because I have read the companion book The Duke and the Baron.  I was hoping the book would fill in the backstory of Louisa and Ellie.  There is just so much violence that it was put on the DNF pile.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC provided by NetGalley.  Thank you.

Portrait of a Lady by Victoria Vale

When youngest son, Hugh Radcliffe, is forced to supplement his income by being a Gentleman Courtesan, he never thought he would meet the woman he loves.  Evelyn Coburn has received her inheritance and is now financially independent.  She knows she will never get married but is determined she will not die a virgin.  A friend tells her about the Gentlemen Courtesans and meets Hugh.  Hugh was disowned by his father, the Earl of Perth because he refused to stop painting.  His one goal is to have one of his paintings in the Royal Exhibition so he can devote himself fully to painting.  He is struggling with his inspiration until he meets Evelyn.  Little does Hugh know, his last client will steal his heart.

I loved the connection between Hugh and Evelyn.  The story was wonderfully written.  The only thing I could have wished was that the heat level was more intense.

The Earl Next Door by Amelia Grey

Adeline, Dowager Countess of Wake is finally free after her husband perishes when the ship he was on sinks.  When she goes to the dock to claim his belongings, she is upset by how the families of the crew are treated.  Along with several other windows, they are determined to help the girls from the crew's families.  The women start a boarding school for the girls to teach them a trade.

Adeline was quite happy as a widow until she met Lord Lyonwood.  Lyon is the son of a philandering marquis, but Lyon wants to be in love with the woman he marries.  For now, he is happy managing his estates.  Until Lyon meets his new neighbor in a case of scandalous mistaken identity.  Adeline is self-reliant and determined.  He has met his match.  Can Adeline see how perfect they are together?

This was a wonderfully written book.  I loved the characters.  Adeline is a woman who is just discovering who she is after her husband locked her away in the country.  She is determined to see the school succeed.  Lyon has watched his father's exploits in "romance" and wants nothing like that.  I liked the relationship between Lyon and his father.  It wasn't perfect.  They struggled to see eye-to-eye.  I almost felt that Lyon's dad needed his own HEA to see what he had been missing.

I really enjoyed reading this book and can't wait for the next one in the series.

One Night to Remember by Erica Ridley

Felicity Sutton wasn't always the sister of a duke.  She and her brother were raised in poverty and is now determined to marry so she can help children in poverty.  Felicity masqueraded as a boy and learned the trade of blacksmithing.  She is her brother's best carriage mechanic.

Giles Langford has been hired by the Duke of Coldhaven to help him win a carriage race.  When the duke insists that his sister help him, Giles is at first stunned, then as he works with Felicity, he discovers he has fallen in love with her.

Giles has no money or title to compete with the men of the ton.  Can he still win Felicity's heart?'

This book was absolutely brilliant.  I loved the emotions behind Felicity and Gile's romance.  As they got past preconceived ideas of who the other was, they realized that they had common goals.  I liked that Felicity wasn't afraid to go after what made her happy.

Rogue Most Wanted by Janna MacGregor

Lady Theodora Worth was raised by her adoring grandfather after her parents died.  Her grandfather held a mixed title - English Duke and Scottish Earl.  Now, Thea has inherited the remote Scottish estate she was raised on.  Her grandfather's greedy heir is challenging her claim to the title and the Ladykyrk estate.  Unfortunately, in his last years, Thea's grandfather suffered from dementia and hid the charter that proved the title and estate were hers.

Thea asks her elderly neighbor for help.  Lady Stella has the perfect answer for Thea.  If Thea is married, the courts will most likely see things her way.  And, Lady Stella's great-nephew can help Thea.

Will Cavensham is the second son of a powerful Duke.  He has buried himself in helping improve his family's holdings since he was jilted as a lad.  His favorite great-aunt is determined to push Lady Thea at him.  As Will starts to help Thea, he starts to realize that she may be the one person he had been looking for.

I absolutely loved this book.  But, it was WAY too long.  After a while, I started "fast forwarding" and skimming.  But, I still enjoyed reading the book.  The characters were amazing.  I loved Thea.  She was an independent heroine that had maintained her grandfather's estate while taking care of him.  I just loved Will.  He was devoted to his family and waiting for the perfect woman.

I am not a huge fan of books with war in the background.  I was able to ignore that to read this book.  I liked the writing and the characters.

Never Deny a Duke by Madeline Hunter

Luckily, the Duke of Brentworth has also received a summons and his family is the ones that were given the confiscated land.  When Eric discovers Davina's mission, he is determined to keep his land.

I liked the premise of this novel.  Davinia was a strong heroine who was working as a tutor, not a governess.  She was an intelligent woman.  Eric is determined to keep his Scottish estate.  As they are thrown together, they work to find proof of Davinia's claim and start to fall in love.

This was an enjoyable read with wonderful characters.

One Night of Passion by Erica Ridley

Priscilla Weatherby must remain unmarried if she is going to inherit a fortune and her independence.  Until she meets Thad, she has not been tempted to fall in love.

I am thrilled with this series.  I love the characters in each book and how they are intertwined.  Thad was a great hero looking for his own HEA.  He finds Priscilla that is searching for her own adventure and independence.  I loved how Thad was able to show Priscilla the love she needed.  Wonderful book!

Penelope Pendelton is relieved to discover that she has inherited Rose Cottage.  She is almost destitute after her brother's reckless actions disgraced her family.  Penelope wants to stay out of the way of Viscount Whitfield, yet they are drawn together as they discover how entwined their families are.

I enjoyed reading this novel.  Penelope had to be a strong woman due to losing her house after her brother's disgrace.  Daniel is just lost.  His parents have died and he is realizing that he never knew his absent parents.  I liked how the story flowed with added humor due to dogs and goats.

In a Badger Way by Shelly Laurenston

This is one of the most craziest books I have read in a while.  The series is focusing on three sisters and Stevie has to be the craziest of them.  She is a lethal badger shifter that has attracted the attention of a panda shifter, Shen Li.

There is more violence in this book than I normally like.  I kind of ignored it because I liked the way the book was written.  It a slow build to romance for Stevie and Shen Li.

London's Best Kept Secret by Anabelle Bryant

Jeremy Lockhart, Viscount Dearing fell in love with Lady Charlotte Notley when he first saw her playing at a ton recital.  He knew because he had a minor title, he would be low on her father's list for her hand.  Jeremy is a financial genius and uses his acumen to drive Charlotte's family into financial ruin.  He then rescues her family and gets her hand in marriage.

Ten months later, Charlotte is confused about why her husband is distant and her marriage isn't consummated.  She attempts to entice him into the marriage bed, but is she prepared for what she will uncover?

I liked this book and the characters.  It was sort of an arranged marriage where the characters have to get to know each other and fall in love.  Jeremy was a man that knew what he wanted.  Charlotte was a strong woman, yet quiet and introspective with her love of the piano.  There was so much angst in this book.

Honor's Revenge by Mari Carr and Lila Dubois

Wow!  This was a book that left me on the edge.  There were several parts that I wanted to scream at Mari and Lila for what they were doing to characters that I like.  It is not nice to give your reader a heart attack in the middle of the book!

I loved the heroes in this book.  Lancelot Knight and Hugo Marchand were the ideal matches for Sylvia Hayden.  There is the intrigue that has been building since the first book.  This book is masterfully written.  There are characters that have been in the previous books that add depth to this book.  I absolutely loved Eric and the introduction of Sylvia's brothers.

Will Valentine be able to make Isabelle his Duchess?

I loved the characters in this book.  Isabelle was a strong heroine and Valentine her valiant rescuer.  The secondary characters blend in well and are great.

I liked how Darcy Burke and Erica Ridley are alternating books in this series.  This book blends well with the first book, yet can be read as a stand-alone.

Erica Ridley is an amazing author.  I loved this book.  The characters were amazing.  I liked how determined Diana was to fix the injustices in her world.  Caleb was a great hero.  I liked the supporting characters.  The Wicked Duke reminded me of an upper class "Cheers".  Loved it.

Graham: The Broken Duke An Illustrated Romance by Jess Michaels

Adelaide Langford is leaving a double life. In the eyes of the Ton, she is a bluestocking wallflower. When she sneaks out of her aunt’s house, she is a celebrated actress.

Graham is starting to return to his old life after the humiliating loss of his longtime fiancée to one of his best friends. His other friends drag him out to the theater where he sees Lydia Ford and is instantly thrown into lust.

Graham does not know why the bespectacled wallflower attracts him as much as Lydia. He is torn and guilted by his feelings until he discovers Adelaide’s secret.

Can Graham save her from the danger that Adelaide was beginning to suspect?

The Broken Duke is the third in the series that revolves around a group of friends that are Dukes. I felt so bad for Graham in the previous book, but at the same time relieved because everyone deserves a spouse that loves them.

When Graham found Adelaide, I was thrilled. I love the characters in the book. While it is about Graham and Adelaide, the Dukes and Duchesses from the previous books make appearances and play a vital part.

This is a wonderfully written novel. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and can’t wait for the next book. Jess Michaels never disappoints and is one of my favorite authors.

I read this novel when it was first published.  To re-read it with Jenn LeBlanc's photos in an illustrated romance enhanced the book.  I loved how the pictures captured the novel.

This was such a well-written book!  I loved the characters.  Charlotte was such a strong young woman.  Jacob was the tragic hero needing the perfect heroine to save him from the darkness in his life.  I liked the murder-mystery subplot.

Once I sat down to read this book, I did not stop.  I liked Sylvia.  She was a strong, wonderful heroine.  Anthony was the perfect hero.  I liked that he was an American and attempting to figure out the details of London society.  The supporting characters were great.  I felt bad for Syliva's twin living with their almost neglectful parents.

The Duke of Distraction by Darcy Burke

Felix Havers, Earl of Ware, never wanted to get married or fall in love because of what he went through with his uncle.  He is only interested in fun and lighthearted entertainment.  His best friend's father suggests Felix marry his daughter.  Both Felix and Sarah are shocked and announce they do not want to marry.

Sarah Colton is a wallflower, firmly on the shelf.  She wants to open a millinery shop and live her own life.  Her parents discover her plans and tell her if she doesn't find a husband on her own, they will find one for her.  When tragedy strikes, will they be able to heal each other?

This was such a well-written book.  I really liked Sarah's determination to live her life the way she wanted it.  She was a strong-willed character.  Felix was much more than the shallow person he let the public see.  He was afraid of falling in love due to what he saw in his youth.  I liked how Sarah helped him heal.

Lady Notorious by Theresa Romain

I liked reading a book where the heroine is a smart woman that is independent in a time when women were dependent on the men in their lives.  Cassandra had to struggle to make something of herself.  She is working with George, Lord Northbrook.  As they work together to stop a plot to kill his father, they become friends and slowly evolve into lovers.  I liked George and how he looked beyond class to see the woman.

This was a great HEA.

Escaping His Grace by Kristin Vayden

This is the second book in the series.  I enjoyed reading this book.  Miranda does not want a loveless marriage so, with her sister's help, she becomes the governess for Heathcliff Marston.

I liked the characters and felt bad that Miranda had to go to such lengths to escape her own father's tyranny.  Heathcliff was a great hero.  He is a strong character that deserved a second chance at a HEA.

Tempt Me with Diamonds by Jane Feather

Diana and Rupert did everything to get on each other's nerves.  What they succeeded is getting on my nerves.  Rupert was too forceful, and wouldn't explain the misunderstanding that broke up their engagement.

The Scandalous Diary of Lily Layton by Stacy Reid

Lily Layton has been widowed twice.  Her last husband was a vicar who told her that her carnal desires were wrong.  Lily pours out her feelings into her diary.  When she loses it, she panics and attempts to find it.

Oliver Carlyle, Marquess of Ambrose, has told his mother that he is ready to find a wife.  When he finds a diary where the writer confides her forbidden fantasies, he knows he has met the woman he needs and is determined to find her.

While I really enjoyed this book and thought it was well written, there were things I had issues with.
Lily's husband was the local vicar who was so prudish he wouldn't touch Lily and punished her for her desires with hours of prayer.  Lily was afraid there was something wrong with her because she didn't get pregnant.  That is not infertility.  That is lack of consummation.   I also didn't like how it felt like the last two chapters were an addition.  They just did not flow.

That being said, I loved how independent Lily was.  She wanted to own her own dress shop so she could sell her designs.  She was a strong heroine.  I liked Oliver's honor.  He was attempting to balance his own desires while hating his father's actions.  I liked how he felt anger towards Lily's husband over what she wrote in her diary.  I also liked how the Marchioness was carving out her own happiness after her bitter marriage.

Katie's Highlander (A Highland Protector Novel) by Maeve Greyon

Katie Jenson is an archaeologist who is on a six-month sabbatical from her job following the death of her father.  His last request was that she live her life to the fullest.  Katie didn't imagine that it would involve crashing her car, getting rescued by a Highland hunk and traveling back to ancient Scotland.

This is the third book in the Highland Protector series.  I have liked each one of the books.  Ramsey is the ultimate brooding Highlander.  The interaction between Katie and Ramsay was great.  Katie's struggle to adapt to life in the 10th century without modern comfort and hygiene items was real!

Tempting Bella by Diana Quincy

As teenagers, Mirabella and Sebastian were forced to marry.  While Sebastian is the third son, Mirabella is a Duchess in her own right.  Sebastian spends the next six years growing her estate so her father can't bankrupt it. While Bella runs wild on the continent with a group of friends.  She is finally forced to come home and be the wife to a man she has grown to despise.  At the opera, Sebastian meets a mysterious beauty.  He is thrilled to learn that she is his wife, yet she is unaware of who he is.  Will they be able to make a forced youthful marriage work?

I absolutely adored Sebastian.  He is nicknamed "the Saint" because he abstains from drinking and affairs.  Bella was a little harder to get to like  At first, she seemed quite the spoiled brat.  When more of her story was revealed, it was easier to understand her "fight or flight" panic when having to become the wife of a man she didn't like.  I like how Sebastian took things slowly and allowed the love to grow.

Scandalous Love by Brenda Joyce

Lady Nicole Bragg Shelton was an unconventional young lady.  Seven years ago, she left London in disgrace and has been at her family's country estate since then.  When Hadrian Braxton-Lowell, Duke of Clayborough purchases the neighboring estate, Nicole is invited to a masque in his honor.  Hadrian is shocked by Nicole's daring conduct and costume at the masque.  He finds he admires her fiery spirit and is determined to have her.

I first read this when it was published in 1992 and I know I re-read it numerous times.  Now, when I read it, I find it exhausting.   There is so many ups and dramatic, plunging lows in this book.  As an adult, I find Nichole's character bratty and not at all appealing.  Hadrian is just an ass.  I felt so bad for his mother Isobel.  One thing that irritated me was Nicole being called Lady Shelton.  That is her MOTHER.  Nicole would be referred to as Lady Nicole.

Whitney, My Love by Judith McNaught

My reactions to this book as an adult are much different than when I first read it in 1985.  I thought Whitney was a sweet, charming young woman who needed the loving influence of her aunt and uncle.  Clayton was an autocratic jerk.  There were two scenes in this book that I felt were not needed.  In the end, Clayton's character does change.

The Marked Lord by Sharon Ibbotson

Sophy Honeywell De Browarec has fled France after being exposed as a British spy.  The one place she knows can hide is Ravensbourne Estate, home of the man that was going to be her stepbrother.

When Sophy was eight, her mother fell in love with Fitzwilliam Ravensbourne's father.  Unfortunately, Sophy's mother died days before the wedding and Fitz's father raised her.  Since Fitz was badly burned, he has become a near recluse surrounded by his beloved plants.  Sophy was the one person that looked at him as a man, not a monster.

This is a book you don't want to put down until you are done.   I loved the gothic romance with the tragically scarred hero and the spy who lost her first love in Revolutionary France.  Both Fitz and Sophy carry a lot of baggage.  Their relationship is tempestuous as they figure out how to love each other.  I loved this book.

Alex decides to secretly investigate his brother's murder after the physician confirms that Lady Georgiana is correct.  As they investigate, it becomes harder to resist the attraction while Georgina has to eliminate Alex from her list of suspects.

I enjoyed the characters in this book.  I liked how Georgiana and Alex worked well together and how they learned to compromise.  The murder mystery added an element of suspense to the romance.  It was a great story.

Theodore O'Hanlon, Viscount Ormondton was injured in the war.  He is in Christmas to heal in anonymity, as far away from London as possible.  His solitude is interrupted by Virginia Underwood and her cat Duke.  Virginia is determined to help Theo heal from his wounds.  She pokes and prods her surly patient until he starts responding.  Theo has a woman who his father selected as his bride when he was young who is pushing him to make the betrothal official.  But, he has fallen in love with Virginia.  Is her love worth fighting for?

What a wonderful book!  I loved the characters.  Virginia was an amazing heroine.  She was such a strong woman.  Theo was the battle scared hero that needed to heal, but he found unconditional love.  I like that the characters from the other books make an appearance.  This was such a sweet read.
