Witches in the Weeds by Lila Dubois

I was thrilled to review this book.  Lila Dubois is one of my favorite authors.  I love this paranormal romance!

Nimue Mahkah is cursed.  As the eldest daughter of the Mahkah coven, she carries a curse that will spread to her younger sisters.  Nim is desperate to stop the curse so she kidnaps Harris Barclay.  His magic what she needs to break the curse. 

When Harris is kidnapped, the baron of Harris's coven hires Trajan Dixon, a powerful air mage, and security operative.  When Trajan shows up,  they enter a dangerous situation. 

Together, Nim, Harris, and Trajan must unite their magic and work as a team to break Nim's curse.  They also find out why uniting their magic is forbidden by their cabals.


This was a great book.  I loved the characters and the paranormal twist.  I love the whit and sarcasm that is woven through the book.  It makes the characters truly come to life.

Heart of Eden by Caroline Fyffe

I felt that this book just plodded along.  I wanted something that moved quicker, got to the point.  I was also furious that there was no resolution with the girls "guardians".  I hated how the sisters were taken advantage of.  That said, I stuck it out because I liked the characters from Blake and Bell to the sisters and Henry.

The Duke of Nothing by Jess Michaels

Jess Michaels is one of my favorite authors.  I have read (and own) the first four books in this series.  I have loved the characters in the book.  However, I could not finish this one because of Helena's uncle and cousin.  I disliked them so intently that I could not finish the book.  I hated how Helena was treated.

The Sheikh's Tamed Bride by Leslie North

I liked Rashid in the first book in this series.  I found he was a wonderful hero.  I loved how his character developed.  Mila came to Dubai after college.  She had been an exchange student in high school and loved the country.  She was a wild child at heart and wanted to see the world.  Rashid needed to get married to prove he has matured and can handle his business.  While Mila isn't the best choice on the surface, she proves that she is the one to tame Rashid's heart.

I thought this was a great book.  I enjoyed the setting and the characters.  I can not wait for the next book.

The Sheikh's Pretend Fiancee by Leslie North

Liyah Reed was a foreign exchange student in Dubai five years ago.  She has since graduated from college and was working.  Her life didn't seem to fit, so she returned to the place she felt the most at home.  Liyah is staying with her beloved exchange-mother and attempting to find a job.  She helps her friend in a short-staffed lounge and catches the eye of Asad Sharif. 

Asad Sharif needs a wife.  He is attempting to convince investors in a real estate project that he is a dependable man when they remember him running around his father's estate in diapers.  Quiet, bookish American Liyah is his perfect choice.  Asad's offer may be the way to help her exchange-mother with her burden of medical bills so she accepts the offer to be his fake fiancee. 

When the investors throw in a new loop-hole, the fake fiancee must become the real wife.  Can they successfully make the marriage real?

I thought this was a perfect Cinderella story.  Liyah is the jeans and baggy t-shirt girl, simple and understated thrust into the world of the wealthy.  There was just the right amount of tension between Liyah and Asad.  Their chemistry was white hot when Asad let his guard down.  Liyah was a wonderful, caring heroine.  I liked how Asad's sister Amira plays the fairy-godmother role toward Liyah.

This was a great start to the series.  It was perfect for an afternoon read!   I can not wait for the next one!

The Duke of Ice by Darcy Burke

Nicholas Bateman, the Duke of Kilve has isolated himself since the death of his wife and infant son.  His best friend, Simon, Duke of Romsey has received an invitation to a house party.  They want the two Untouchable Dukes - Ice and Ruin to attend.  Simon convinces Nick to attend the party.

Lady Violet Pendelton always attends her dear friend's house parties.  She is stunned when her first love, her true love appears at the party.  Violet met Nick when he was a Mister and she was a Miss.  They fell madly in love and were planning to get married when her parents made her marry a Viscount.  Since that time, Nick has seen a lot of death in his immediate family and believes he is cursed.  Violet is shocked that the open, laughing young man she once knew is now the Duke of Ice.

As the house party progresses, Violet slowly starts to draw Nick out of his frozen shell.  He even goes to Bath, where she lives, to renew their relationship.  But when tragedy strikes Violet, Nick pulls away.  He even proposes marriage to one of the young debutants from the house party - a young woman he knows he won't fall in love with.  Will Violet find herself the jilted party?  Can Nick and Violet finally have their HEA?

This book is an emotional rollercoaster.  I thought Violet was an amazing heroine.  She was a strong woman that survived a terrible marriage and the loss of several pregnancies.  Nick, on the other hand, was ice cold and quite honestly didn't deserve Violet.  Yes, he lost his brother during the war, his wife through childbirth, his infant son did not survive and his uncle who raised him passed away before Nick could return home from war.

 After the house party, Nick visits Violet at her home in Bath to try and rekindle their past.  He wants her, but won't marry her because he believes anyone he loves is cursed to die.  Nick even proposes to one of the debutants from the house party because he knows he won't love her. 

There were a lot of times I was screaming at Violet to just move on from Nick.  Simon, the Duke of Ruin was perfect for her.  But no, Violet had to have the Duke of Ice. 

I loved the second chance at love plot.  Once I started reading the book, I was hooked.  I couldn't put it down.  It was an amazing book.  I just wish Nick was less of a jerk and frozen block of ice.  I can not wait until Simon gets his much deserved HEA!!

Something to Howl About by Christine Warren

Something to Howl About is a novella that is the opening to a new series.  Alpha, Washington is the home to shifters that don’t fit in to their pack.  Dr. Annie Cryer is a geneticist that got banished from her pack in New York three years ago.  Since then, she has been wandering the country working wherever a colleague’s progect struck her mood.

Annie is called by her former pack’s Alpha offering to lift the ban if she goes to Alphaville to help Jonas Browning figure out why his Grizzly clan hasn’t had a child born in a generation.  When Jonas meets the wolf shifter, his bear perks up and screams “mate”.  When Jonnas discovers that everything he has believed about Grizzleys and mating isn’t true, he decided that he is going to claim his mate.

This opening novella was fast-paced and hot.  I loved the snark the author throws into the characters. I always love a good PNR and this novella is great.  The only thing I wish was addressed was why Annie was banished from her pack.

A Billionaire for Christmas by Leslie North

This is the story that I was waiting for!  I loved how this book resolved the sub-plot that had been woven into the first two book in the series.  To top it off, Heath is an amazing hero.  Aileen was a great heroine.

The Rogue is Back in Town by Anna Bennett

This is the third book in the Wayward Wallflower series.  I read the first two and loved them.  I didn't put them down until I was done.  I wish this book was as good as the first two.  For me, the characters  and the plot fell flat.  I did not like Sam and felt that Juliette was a weak character.  I really hate how Uncle Alistair is portrayed as the “crazy uncle”.  He was a man that was lonely.  He was a kind man that took in three girls when the other relatives would have separated them.

Cowboy Stole My Heart by Soraya Lane

This is the first book in the River Ranch series.  I enjoyed Sam and Mia.  They were likable and great characters.  I liked that Mia had stood up to her father and did something that she wanted to do and enjoyed.  Sam pulled himself up from nothing to a sought-after horse whisperer.  Mia's father hired Sam to fix a dangerous horse.  Sam was through with love after a disastrous relationship.  Sam fights his attraction to Mia.  Is she worth risking his job to win her heart?

I am a sucker for a Cowboy romance.  I was sucked into this book and didn't want it to end.  This is the first book I have read by Soraya Lane and can't wait to read more!

The Wicked Vampire by Kate Baxter

This is the first book in the series that I have read.  I was able to jump right in because the author did a great job with making it easy to catch up.  I liked the star cross lovers - vampire and berserker.  I liked the plot and flow.
