Deception (The Demon Hunters #2) by A.S. Fenichel

Lillian Dellacourt has come a long way from the girl sold to the highest bidder.  Fate made her a demon hunter and member of The Company.  Dorian Lambert is the son of an exiled French nobleman that has been sent to keep track of Lillian after a semi-disastrous outcome of a battle with the demons.  Lily needs to learn to trust Dorian because her partner is injured and the demon master has returned to Edinburgh.

This novel isn't what I normally read.  However, the historical romance part grabbed my attention.  After the first chapter, I was hooked and didn't stop reading until I was done.  What I thought I would not like, I ended up being blown away.

Lillian was a big part of why I liked the book.  It is nice to see a heroine that has emotional scars that keep her from trusting and developing a relationship with a man.   Lillian has so much baggage she has a full set of Amelia Earhart luggage (including train case).  She also can kick some serious demon butt!  I thought she was an amazing heroine.   Dorian is the type of man that any sensible girl would fall for except for Lillian.   Slowly, Dorian becomes a part of her trust zone and seduces her.  There are some twists that I did not see coming and one that especially left me screaming in frustration.  But, it added to the quality of the novel.  It is the second in the series, but read very well as a stand alone.

I received this ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.  Thank you very much!
