Beauty and the Highland Beast by Lecia Cornwall

Dair Sinclair was captured and tortured on a mission to save his cousin from entering a convent.  Dair is unable to save his cousin and returns home broken and becomes known as the Madman of Carraig Brigh.

A pagan midwife tells Dair's father that the only thing that can save him is a virgin bride.  Padraig will do anything to save his son and sets off to find his son's perfect wife.  At the MacLeod's castle he meets the shy, scarred Fia MacLeod and is convinced that she is perfect for Dair.

Dair does not want a bride and despite his attempts to frighten Fia, he starts to see her for her inner beauty and she sees the man he is under the scars and nightmares.

There is nothing like a wonderful Highland romance.  I was hooked from chapter one  to the end.  The reason I could not give this five stars was the prologue.  The book is supposed to be set in 1706, but with the pagan midwife/witch and "got to find a virgin" it felt like the book was set in the 1500's.

I loved the rich cast of characters that made this novel wonderful.  While there is a "Beauty and the Beast" theme, the Beauty had her own scars that caused her emotional pain.  That is why she understood the Beast so well.

I received this ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
